Biography

I have obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Vilnius University, Lithuania. During the undergraduate studies I got to participate in an international exchange program at Kyungpook National University, South Korea. There I started my first laboratory experience working with molecular biology techniques on model plants. After coming back to Vilnius University for my thesis, I applied the molecular biology knowledge on plants from the local ecosystems. By working with both model and non-model organisms I realized my interest in using molecular biology techniques for solving questions that are often seen as related to classical biology.  This led me to apply for KAUST M.Sc. Bioscience program, Cellular and Molecular Biology track in order to learn more about the different experimental and data analysis methods. I am very excited to join the Symbiomics laboratory and get the hands-on experience on working with the model organism Aiptasia.

Research Interests

For my research in the Symbiomics laboratory, I will be investigating glutamate receptor inhibitor effect on the Symbiodiniaceae which is the symbiotic algae in a coral organism. The aim of this project is to better understand the symbiotic relationship of the coral holobiont
