Maha Cziesielski, a third year PhD Student in the Coral Symbiomics lan, recently published the findings of her first thesis chapter in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B (hyperlink to paper). Her work is of timely importance, as the dire state of global reefs are gaining increasing public attention. Thus, she was interviewed for her research and her paper was mentioned in a recent BBC News article focusing on the mass bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef.
While the article discusses the findings of coral heat stress and bleaching responses as well as thresholds during El Nino events of 2016, a recent publication by Dr. Terry Hughes in Nature (Ref:https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0041-2), Maha's work offers an angle of hope for understanding coral temperature tolerance.
